Silvia was born and raised in Guayaquil, Ecuador, where she studied at the German School of Guayaquil before attending law school and then the Alliance Francaise. Silvia first came to the Galápagos Islands in 1984, returning to stay in 1988. During her first years here, she worked as hotel manager for the Hotel Galápagos, and then ran her own restaurant business. In 1991 Silvia took the course to become a guide in the Galápagos and has been guiding ever since.
Her hobbies have always been conservation and eco-fashion designing. Silvia is presently finishing her certificate in aromatherapy, and will subsequently get a certification in permaculture, a lifestyle she wants to bring over to the islands.
In an effort to keep improving her communication skills, she recently participated in a course on interpretation techniques run by an expert in the field, Sam Ham. She is also currently going into local politics. Silvia spends her free time at home in the highlands of Santa Cruz Island with her daughter, Ariel.
