Alyssa Stoller

Based in Iceland's Westfjords, Alyssa is a marine scientist and storyteller. As co-founder and co-director of the charity Whale Wise, she oversees a range of research projects dedicated to better understanding and protecting whale populations while advancing long-term marine conservation.

Originally from the U.S. West Coast, she holds a bachelor's degree in Marine Environmental Science and a master's degree in Marine Systems and Policies, with a focus on marine conservation. Alyssa's work in whale research began in 2014 in the South Pacific, and since 2018 she has focused on studying whales in Iceland. Her work combines scientific research, conservation and public outreach, helping bridge the gap between research findings and broader public understanding.

Alyssa also has extensive experience as a naturalist and science educator, with a strong commitment to public engagement and environmental education. Believing in the power of storytelling, she has produced both short and feature-length films that bring the world of whale research to wider audiences and highlight the importance of healthy marine ecosystems. As a naturalist with National Geographic–Lindblad Expeditions, she values the opportunity to share ongoing research, learn alongside guests and colleagues and encourage a deeper understanding of whales, marine conservation and the remarkable ecosystems they inhabit.
