Antoine Viot
Antoine Viot is a geologist who has been guiding and traveling in polar regions since 2017. Originally trained in mining geology, he holds a master’s degree in the field and has developed a strong interest in the geological and glacial landscapes of high-latitude environments.
In 2017, Antoine spent nearly a year living in Longyearbyen, Svalbard, where he studied glaciology and began working as a polar guide. During the Arctic winter season, he has led guests through ice caves to share insights about landscapes shaped by glaciers and sea ice.
His career has also taken him far from the polar regions. After his time in Svalbard, Antoine worked in mining exploration in Gabon, gaining experience in a very different geological and climatic setting. Despite the contrast, the pull of the polar regions remained strong.
Drawn by the sense of remoteness and discovery found in high-latitude environments, Antoine returned to expedition travel and began working aboard expedition ships. His curiosity about landscapes is constant—his favorite question being, “Why is this mountain here?”
When not guiding, Antoine spends much of his time exploring the outdoors on his own adventures. Based near Chamonix in the French Alps, he enjoys ski expeditions in polar environments as well as hiking, paragliding and climbing in the mountains close to home.
