John has been interested in traveling, what can be learned from it, and sharing it with others, since his days as a youth growing up in rural Ohio. A graduate of Marietta College with a BA in Recreation Management, his wanderlust and yearning for adventure has taken him to 49 states (forlorn for Fargo) and over 35 countries on 5 continents.
John is also a former Alaskan resident, where he attended the University of Alaska, Anchorage, majoring in Education and Wilderness Studies. Here he found his insatiable appetite for wilderness experiences finally fulfilled. He moved south to Seattle to pursue a Masters degree in Human Development and enter the teaching profession, finding his village on a small island where he taught at a two room, little red school house on a hilltop.
An educator at heart, and by profession, he has made his home in the beautiful San Juan Islands of Washington state for many years, where he has worked as a classroom teacher, kayak guide, tour director and community organizer. He now travels the world with Lindblad Expeditions as a naturalist and certified Field Educator, inspiring others to be concerned global citizens and sharing his passions for the environment and conservation.
