Massimo Nicolaci
Massimo Nicolaci is a visual storyteller adept at navigating diverse visual languages, from analog film to digital and multimedia platforms. With a career spanning photography, cinematography and directing, he currently develops and produces projects, leveraging his varied expertise to craft the ideal visual narrative for each story. A native of Sicily, Massimo has traveled extensively for his work, documenting compelling stories that intertwine history, memory, science and current events through anthropological and archaeological lenses, including those related to contemporary climate change, from the Arctic to South Africa.
Since 2019, Massimo has collaborated with National Geographic Magazine on numerous assignments, often working in teams to explore fresh perspectives and innovative visual approaches. His dedication to storytelling extends beyond editorial commissions to personal projects driven by an intrinsic passion. In 2018, he directed his first short movie, Sing Your Song Boy. He also published his debut book, La Cerva Bianca, in 2018, followed by Sitting on the Fire in 2023. His book Stramondo is slated for release in 2026. Massimo also teaches various photography and filmmaking courses both in Italy and abroad. For him, photography is a means of asking questions and venturing into the unknown. In his free time, he enjoys outdoor activities, frequenting cinemas, museums and galleries for new visual inspiration, and reading diverse books to spark fresh ideas for projects and narrative research.
