Michael Warr
Mike Warr spent two years in the Antarctic working as a meteorologist. He lived with a small group at Deception Island and Adelaide Island, where he observed the weather, drove husky dog teams, heated coal stoves, and melted snow for water.
In 2005, he returned to the Antarctic for three weeks and visited most of his old haunts. His book, South of Sixty, is a memoir of living in the Antarctic in the 1960s, and the comparison with the present living conditions and effects of global warming on Antarctica. Mike enjoys sharing his knowledge of Antarctic history and his experiences living there, on expedition ships and continues to travel to the Falkland Islands, South Georgia, and the Antarctic.
He currently resides in British Columbia, where he taught secondary school for twenty-six years. When not travelling, he keeps fit by running marathons once or twice a year.
