This three-day, two-night extension blends both ocean and mountain activities in the charming town of Loreto, which sits on the eastern coast of the Baja California Peninsula. Check into the elegant, oceanfront La Mision Hotel and stroll over to the historic “Our Lady of Loreto” Mission in the vibrant town square. Board local panga boats to go in search of majestic blue and fin whales—the two largest animals in the world. Then, hike through the dunes and canyons of the Sierra de la Gigante mountain range to observe desert wildlife like black-tailed jackrabbits, myriad lizards, and several endemic bird species.

Attend Edinburgh’s Annual Royal Military Tattoo
Every year, several departures of our Edinburgh post-voyage extension coincide with the annual Royal Military Tattoo (which takes place in August), a rousing celebration of the British military, Scottish heritage, music, and dance that dates back to 1949. Set against the ancient Edinburgh Castle, the tattoo features performances from ceremonial pipe and drum bands from around the world, alongside traditional Scottish Highland dancers and fiddlers. In addition to attending the show, guests will also take in an array of notable Scottish sights like the Stone of Destiny, the Crown Jewels, the Palace of Holyrood House, and the Royal Yacht Britannia.

Led by a National Geographic Photography Expert along with Ecuadorian photographer and environmental activist, Lucas Bustamante, you’ll journey to the Napo Wildlife Center, your home base located right in the heart of the park.
